CF 101: Art Competitions

4-Koma Competition

What is a “4-koma”?
In a nutshell, “4-koma” or “Yonkoma” is basically a four-panel comic strip, laid out from top to bottom. 4-koma comics are a staple in almost all types of publications in Japan, from manga magazines, political journals, all the way to cooking magazines. Because of the limited amount of space in which to construct a story (usually a humourous one), timing and pacing is extremely important, from setting up the story to the climax to the conclusion.
