Only @ CF 2011: The Great CF 2011 SideQuest

The Comic Fiesta SideQuest (CFSQ) was an interesting experiment that debuted in CF 2010. It combined a treasure hunt, trading card games, (TCG), social interaction with all elements of Comic Fiesta.

Despite last year being the first time that the SideQuest debuted, it was enthusiastically received by visitors. 11 teams took part over both days of CF 2010, and the winning team walked away with a brand new Playstation Portable gaming unit!

It only makes sense for us to give it another go! So this year, we’re bringing back CFSQ, upping the ante, raising the stakes and presenting a grand prize that might just end up being one of the amazing prizes ever brought forth in any iterations of Comic Fiesta.

Section I: Introduction

The target of each player this year is to collect as many points as possible from cards numbered #100 to #1. Anyone can join the CFSQ.

Here are the steps made simple:

1. Register yourself at the SideQuest Counter.
2. Find out about a card you like.
3. Complete the tasks needed for the card.
4. Collect the card.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 as often as you can.

At the end of two days, a winner will be decided based on the player’s card collection. Simple, but also intense.

Section II: Card Types & How to Gauge Your Collection

There are three general types of cards: Basic, Fusion and Catena.

Basic cards are gained through completing quests attained from Game Masters (GMs).
Fusion cards are upgraded cards obtained by trading in specific Basic cards from GMs. (imagine a “recipe” for an “item”).
Catena cards are reward cards rewarded whenever certain requirements are fulfilled and presented.

Cards are numbered in descending order and each numbered card belongs to only one type of card (Basic, Fusion or Catena). The number of copies of a card is limited, and the number printed follows the number of the card itself. Because of this, the rarer lower-number cards have higher points.

#100: 100 copies, 1 point each
#90: 90 copies 11 points each
#31: 31 copies, 70 points each
#2: 2 copies, 99 points each

These points will be used to gauge a player’s collection. However, one copy of each numbered card will be considered during the final tabulation of points (i.e. if your collection only has 30 copies of #90, you only have 11pts).

Section III: Let’s Play!

  • To gain cards, players must first get information about them from the Game Masters (GM).
  • Including the SideQuest Booth, there are a total of four (4) GMs throughout the game. Each GM has information and access to different sets of cards.
  • Information on cards can be requested from each GM. Each GM also holds a reference list of cards they carry that can be obtained upon request.
  • Players are awarded Basic cards whenever they complete quests. These cards can be obtained from either the GMs or other designated distributors whenever they achieve the requirements.
  • Generally, non-GM distributors will be identified upon accepting the quest. There may be exceptions to this rule.
  • Proof may be requested upon redeeming cards. This may be in the form of photographic, video or audio recordings.
  • Players may exchange sets of Basic cards for Fusion cards from GMs.
  • Catena cards are obtained whenever a player’s collection achieves a certain requirement. This requirement can be inquired by the player from the related GM.
  • For the sake of points, trading or any other reason you can think of, players are free to repeat quests to gain multiple copies of a card.

Section IV: What Are You Battling For?

Players are to gather and submit their entire collection of cards back to the Side Quest Booth by 5 p.m, December 18, 2011 (Sunday, Day 2). A winner is determined by the player whose card collection provides the highest amount of points.

The winner of CFSQ 2011 will walk away with the ultimate card:
Lifetime Pass to Comic Fiesta!

You know now what’s at stake. The prize is well worth the battle!
